On March 13, Yan Dong, Vice Minister of Commerce and CHAM Nimul, Cambodian Minister of Commerce co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China-Cambodia Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee in Phnom Penh.

Yan Dong said that under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, bilateral economic and trade relations have developed steadily with fruitful results in economic and trade cooperation. China will continue to expand high-standard opening up, increase foreign trade, and guide foreign investment towards a healthy, safe and orderly direction, which will provide new opportunities and inject new impetus for China-Cambodia cooperation. The two sides should implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, continue to deepen economic and trade cooperation, make joint efforts to promote the expansion of Cambodian agricultural product exports to China, promote the growth of regional trade and investment, encourage enterprises of the two sides to deeply engage in the industrial and supply chains with complementary strengths, to safeguard common interests, and to promote cooperation in emerging areas such as the digital economy and green development.

CHAM Nimul said that Cambodia attaches great importance to economic and trade cooperation with China, Cambodia’s largest trading partner and the largest source of foreign investment, and is willing to work with China to strengthen cooperation under the framework of China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement, China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) and other frameworks. Cambodia is grateful to China for the capacity building support provided for Cambodia’s economic and social development and for the zero-tariff treatment given to 100% of the products of the least developed countries including Cambodia, and hopes that China will further expand its imports of agricultural products from Cambodia, increase its investment in Cambodia, and promote China-Cambodia economic and trade cooperation to a new level.
